Sermon Notes for Sunday August 28, 2016
This Sunday I will be preaching about how Jesus is the worst guest, but the greatest host (Luke 14:1-24). You will get a lot more out of your Bible study if you remember that the culture Jesus lived in was quite different from ours, especially in terms of how much time and energy was spent dealing with issues of honor and shame. The question of who you invited to a meal, who showed up, and where people sat, were life and death issues in Jesus’ time. Indeed, they can still be huge issues, especially for people from Asian and Middle Eastern cultures.
